Home ›Waukon softball team tallies another single win, comes close to several others, including “grand” near comeback effort vs. Class 4A third-rated Charles City
The Waukon softball team played through another single-win week on the diamond this past week, although coming close to adding to that victory total on several occasions. The Indians first fell at MFL/MarMac by a 3-1 result Tuesday, May 29 before being swept in a home Northeast Iowa Conference (NEIC) doubleheader by Class 4A third-rated Charles City by scores of 10-0 and just a 7-6 margin Thursday, May 31. The Tribe diamond dwellers then fell at South Winneshiek, 4-3, Friday, June 1 before splitting a pair of games at the Charles City Tournament Saturday, June 2, falling to St. Ansgar by a 7-5 count but defeating Woodward-Granger by a 5-4 final result.
Off to a 2-8 start on the season, including a 0-4 record in NEIC play, the Indians were scheduled to play Monday, June 4 at Decorah before another pair of back-to-back NEIC games, Wednesday, June 6 at home against Oelwein and Thursday, June 7 at New Hampton, and then playing in the Riceville Tournament Saturday, June 9. Four straight nights of softball will greet the Indians next week, including hosting Crestwood, North Fayette Valley and Waverly-Shell Rock Monday, June 11, Tuesday, June 12 and Wednesday, June 13 before playing at Osage Thursday, June 14.
