Pirates lose to UIC leader Clayton Ridge

By Gary Simmons, Sr.
POSTVILLE - The Pirates hosted Upper Iowa Conference leader Clayton Ridge (3-0, 9-1) and would need a big upset to break their 10 game losing streak.
The Pirates didn't make it easy as they played tough all night, but a big third quarter for the Eagles gave them a 14 point victory 50-36 over the winless Pirates.
The Eagles held a four point lead after the first quarter and only a six point lead at the break, 22-16 as the Pirates just wouldn't go away.

Lady Pirates remain undefeated in UIC

By Gary Simmons, Sr.
POSTVILLE - Last Tuesday's (January 18th ) Upper Iowa Conference game between the Lady Pirates and Clayton Ridge was threatened by bad weather but the game tipped-off as scheduled. Postville remained undefeated in conference play knocking off the Eagles by a score of 51-31.
Clayton Ridge got off to a terrible start defensively and never really threatened in the game. To compound the Eagles' problems the Lady Pirates were a step ahead of their usual breakneck-pace as they jumped out to a 14-2 first quarter lead.

Schierholz appreciates package from home

(Editor's Note: The Postville High School FCCLA received this note from Kevin Schierholz, PHS 1990, after he received a "care" package from the group in December. FCCLA advisor CiCi Mueller is sharing his letter with our readers.)
Dear FCCLA,
Happy New Year from Forward Operating Base (F.O.B.)Chazni, Afghanistan! I want to thank you all for the care package and the letter you sent me. It was very thoughtful and greatly appreciated. The package arrived just before we kicked-out for our final missions before Christmas. So the items came in real handy.

Highlights from the Senate

As a result of the Martin Luther King holiday, this was a short week. In spite of that, it was full of telephone calls and emails regarding the proposed tax increase on cigarettes sold in this state. It seems that there is no middle ground on this issue. I will address both sides of the controversy in this week's newsletter.
