Hazel M. Hill, 86, of Waukon died Friday, November 21, 2014 at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 25 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon, with Rev. Lynn G. Groe officiating. Burial was at Oakland Cemetery, Waukon.
Hazel Marie Hill was born July 24, 1928 in McGregor, the daughter of Louis and Lelia (Cahoon) Knight. She was baptized at First Methodist Church in McGregor and attended McGregor area rural schools. June 2, 1950, she married Mervin Hill at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon. Hazel worked for several area restaurants and also helped her husband and son at Hill's Plumbing and Heating for many years.
She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and its ladies organizations and the VFW Auxiliary. Hazel enjoyed playing bingo, working in her garden, spending time at the cabin at Black Hawk Park, and walking her dog, Maggie. She also loved spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include her children, Diane (Mike) Quillin of Waterville, and Debbie (Darold) Berger and Dennis (Jamie) Hill, both of Waukon; five grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Ruth McClintock of Decorah. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Mervin, who died in 1994; a granddaughter, Jadann Hill; two sisters, Shirley Beisker and Elizabeth “Betty” Hill; one infant brother; and two infant sisters.
Honorary casketbearers were Damon, Samara, Solan and Stella Berger, Katie and Kerry Brennan, and Dacia, Evelyn, Ireland and Owen Regan. Casketbearers were Brody and Bren Regan, Daniel Mervin and Quinn Brennan, Devinn and Jordinn Hill, David Berger and Dawson Baures.
