Allamakee County Conservation Board announces schedule for Winter Environmental Education

The Allamakee County Conservation Board (ACCB) has announced the schedule for Winter of 2014-2015 public environmental education programs. The programs offered by the Allamakee County Conservation Board are free of charge and open to all ages, according to the following schedule:

A Winter Carnival will be held at County Home Park Saturday, December 20 from 1-3 p.m. Participants will be able to try snowshoeing on an unguided hike around County Home Park. All equipment will be provided by the Allamakee County Conservation Board on the day of the carnival on a first come, first serve basis. No registration is required.

Two Fullmoon Snowshoe events will be held January 8 and February 5 of the new year. Participants in the January Fullmoon Snowshoe will meet at the Yellow River Forest Headquarters at 6 p.m. The February Fullmoon Snowshoe will be February 5. Participants will meet at the Rural Waste Disposal site on Powerplant Drive, Lansing at 6 p.m. Snowshoes and trekking poles are available to registered participants.  Participants who wish to use their own equipment are welcome to, but must still pre-register for either event.

A “Builder’s Workshop” will be held January 24 of the new year at 10 a.m. The workshop will be held at the ACCB shop at 427 North First Street in Harpers Ferry. Participants will be able to build several different birdhouses to use in their backyards including Bluebird boxes, Robin nesting platforms, Bat houses and Woodduck boxes. All material and tools will be provided by the ACCB. Pre-registration is required.
