Alyce Gavin

Alyce M. Gavin, 87, of Mt. Pleasant, WI passed away at Artisan Senior Living in Mt. Pleasant Friday, January 2, 2015. A celebration of Alyce’s life and Funeral Mass were held at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Racine, WI January 6, with Rev. Terry Huebner officiating. Interment followed the Mass at Holy Cross Cemetery Mausoleum in Racine, WI.
Alyce was born in Harpers Ferry January 6, 1927, the daughter of the late Helmer and Mary (nee Garin) Evenson. June 25, 1946 she married the love of her life, Clair V. Gavin. They moved to Racine, WI from Iowa in 1949. Clair preceded her in death October 7, 1995.
Alyce sincerely enjoyed her 43 years as a hostess at Wells Brothers Restaurant.  The long-lasting friendships she made with co-workers and customers made it difficult for her to finally retire in 1998. Although her work was important to Alyce, her family always came first.  She was happiest when in the company of her children and grandchildren. Alyce was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church.
She is survived by her daughters, Marilyn (Rick) Simpson of Normal, IL, and Marlene (Dave) Jensen and Jeanne Kelemen, both of Racine, WI; and her son, Jim (Johanna) Gavin of Franksville, WI. Alyce is further survived by seven grandsons; three granddaughters; 20 great-grandchildren; her brother, Victor Evenson; as well as nieces, nephews and other extended family.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Alyce was preceded in death by her grandson, Jamie Abbott, and her sister, Marian (Jerry) Cota.
