Evelyn Manning

Evelyn Marie Manning, 90, of Wexford passed away peacefully at Thornton Manor January 21, 2015 surrounded by her loving family. Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, January 24 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Wexford, with Rev. John Moser as the Celebrant. Interment followed at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Cemetery, Wexford.
Evelyn was born June 29, 1924 to Leo and Marie (Ferring) Troendle on a farm in rural Lycurgus. She was the oldest of four children.
Evelyn was united in marriage to Harold F. Manning October 21, 1941.  To this union, eight children were born. Evelyn farmed beside Harold for many years.  Evelyn took great pride in her farm and helped milk cows and was the primary caretaker of the baby calves. Her family was always her first priority.
Evelyn and Harold were known by their grandkids as Grandma and Grandpa Farmer. The grandkids would take turns staying on the farm in the summer. Evelyn always had a big garden and canned many quarts of vegetables. She was an excellent baker, known for her jellyroll at church breakfast. She passed her love of baking on to her grandchildren. Grandma Evelyn always had a full cookie jar.
Evelyn and Harold enjoyed playing cards and watching Lawrence Welk. She was an active member of the Immaculate Conception Church of Wexford and served as Rosary Society President, religion teacher and parish grounds keeper of the Wexford Shrine. Evelyn made hundreds of popcorn balls for the children’s Christmas bags.
Evelyn was a very compassionate lady who cared for and nurtured her family and extended family. She beamed with pride at their accomplishments and always treated everyone equal.
Evelyn is survived by seven children, George (Laure) Manning, Mary (Ed) Blake, Vince (Mary) Manning, Susie (Larry) Blake, Jean (Gerald) Dotzler, Ray (Patty) Manning and Steve Manning; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her sisters-in-law, Leonette Troendle and Mary Manning; her brother-in-law, George Hammell; and her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jim and Kay Manning.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; a son, Pat Manning; a daughter-in-law, Jenny Manning; a grandson, Tyler Blake; her brothers, Jim, Cyril and Tommy Troendle; and her sisters-in-law, Kathleen Troendle and Agnes Troendle.
Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Lansing assisted the family with arrangements.
