Allamakee County Corner

Each January the Iowa Department of Revenue and Finance comes out with the Property Tax Credit claim form. This credit helps elderly and disabled low-income individuals.
To qualify this year, the person must:
1) Be an Iowa resident;
2) Be 65 or older as of December 31, 2014, OR be totally disabled and age 18-64 as of December 31, 2014;
3) Have 2014 annual household income under $22,011;
4) Have paid property tax in Iowa during 2014;
5) Have lived in a place that was subject to property tax in 2014.
If all of these requirements are met, the person can fill out an Iowa Property Tax Credit Claim form. This form can be found online at  https://tax.iowa.gov/form-types/property-tax.
This form is also available at the Allamakee County Treasurer’s Office, 110 Allamakee Street, Waukon, IA  52172. This form must be completed each year and returned to the Treasurer’s Office by June 1.
Also, the State of Iowa offers a Rent Reimbursement program to assist elderly or disabled low-income individuals. To qualify, a person must:
1) Be an Iowa resident;
2) Be 65 or older as of December 31, 2014, OR be totally disabled and age 18-64 as of December 31, 2014;
3) Have 2014 annual household income under $22,011;
4) Have paid rent in Iowa during 2014;
5) Have lived in a place that was subject to property tax in 2014.
This form can also be found at the website address listed above or at the Allamakee County Treasurer’s Office. This form must be returned to the Iowa Department of Revenue by June 1 of each year.
