Waukon High School Music Department to host annual Pop's Concert February 28

The Waukon Music Departments will be hosting its fifth annual Pop’s Concert Saturday, February 28 at the Waukon Junior High School gymnasium. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. with concert time at 7:30 p.m.
The Pop’s Concert features high energy musical numbers from the 1950s through today. Most every musical group at the Waukon Junior High and High School participate in this concert including the jazz bands, bucket bands and all vocal groups in grades 7-12, and even an elementary vocal group. Costumes are included in most every number performed at the concert and some numbers are even choreographed.
"Our fifth annual ‘Night at The Pops’ Concert will feature some of our past favorites and many new familiar tunes for the community to enjoy,” commented Adrienne Gerst, Waukon Junior High and High School Vocal Director. “Our students have been working hard on learning the music and choreography, and they always look forward to performing this fun music for the community."
The Pop’s Concert is an annual fund raising event sponsored by the Allamakee Music Boosters. It replaced the Spaghetti Supper four years ago and has proven to be a very popular change for all involved and all who attend the event.
Some of the numbers performed this year will include “It’s a Hard Knock Life,” “Beauty School Drop Out,” “Footloose,” “I Get Around,” “Let It Go,” “Celebration” and “The Addams Family,” to name a few. Plus, the drumline and bucket bands, and jazz band will all be performing as well.
"I can't believe we have been performing the Pops Concert for five years,” adds JoAnn Sherman, Waukon High School Band Director.  “This concert is a lot of fun to prepare, and brings so much diversity to the stage. There is certainly something for everyone to enjoy."
Tables can be hosted for this event; however, this year they are already sold out. But the Pop’s Concert is also open to the public for admission paid at the door the night of the event. Seating is on a first come, first served basis in the bleachers and chairs located in the back of the gym.
