Alan was born October 20, 1944 in Postville to Allard and Jacqueline (Lane) Nyberg. He graduated from Postville High School and attended Upper Iowa University in Fayette, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in business administration. Alan was employed at a credit union in Fort Dodge. After doing some traveling out west, he started to work in the antique area of guns, duck decoys, fishing items and other general antiques. For many years Alan worked with his step-father, Keith, in collecting and researching Indian artifacts. He later joined Keith working full-time in his business, Thunderbird Indian Artifacts. He traveled over 17 western states, attending auctions and meeting other sellers of Indian artifacts. Keith turned the business over to Alan in 2004 and continued to assist him.
Alan enjoyed going to the movies, and always wanted to be the first one to see a new one when it came out in theaters. He was an avid sports fan, he loved watching the Iowa Hawkeyes. When he walked into a room he filled it like a ray of sunshine. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him.
