The Bottom Line

by State Senator Mike Breitbach

This week concentrated on moving bills through subcommittees and committees in order to “stay alive.” Any bills not making it through a committee in either the House or the Senate are considered dead for the year.
I’m looking forward to the coming weeks as we will be concentrating on bills which have enough support to make it to the floor for debate. Bills are fine-tuned in committee, but most senators have not had an opportunity to weigh in on them depending on the committee the bill passed through.
Before a bill comes to the floor for debate each caucus discusses the bill so members can get a feeling from members that have been working on the bill in the weeks prior. It will be interesting watching these bills as they take their final form and move forward for a vote.
I was scheduled to be in Postville on Saturday, but will be unable to attend because of a funeral. Representive Patti Ruff will still be attending.
