Leona Troester

Leona Maxine Troester, 88, of Monona died Monday, March 9, 2015 at the Great River Care Center, McGregor. Funeral Services were held Saturday, March 14 at the Rossville Presbyterian Church, Rossville, with the Rev. Gary Catterson officiating. Burial followed at the Monona Cemetery, Monona.
Leona was born December 1, 1926 in rural Monona to Ray and Hazel (Frink) Rush. She was baptized and confirmed at the Rossville Presbyterian Church in Rossville December 25, 1938. Leona attended Jefferson Township Country School until it closed. She then attended school in Waukon, graduating from Waukon High School with the Class of 1947.
Leona helped her father on the farm and was a baby sitter for families while their mothers taught school. She also worked for the Fred Groth Turkey Plant in Postville. Leona was united in marriage to Arthur Troester June 21, 1958 at the Rossville Presbyterian Church. One son, Allan, was born to this union. They bought the farm south of Monona  in 1962 and farmed together for a short time. Arthur passed away July 14, 1962. In 1982, Leona and her brother-in-law, Philip Troester, moved to Monona.
Leona enjoyed country music, listening to the radio, hand quilting and playing cards. She was a member of the Friendship Club, Rossville Presbyterian Church and the United Presbyterian Women. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Survivors include her son, Allan (Laurie) Troester of Monona; two grandchildren, Aaron and Ashley Troester; one sister, Darlene Leas of Rossville; and her nieces, nephews and cousins. Leona was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Hazel Rush; her husband, Arthur Troester; her sister and brother-in-law, Ruth (Clarence) Brandsmeier; and her brother-in-law, Neil Leas.
