The Bottom Line

by Mike Breitbach, State Senator

This week has been the second funnel week at the Legislature. Any bills that will stay alive must pass one chamber and through the other chamber’s respective committee. I went to the House on Wednesday to ensure some of my bills were progressing through this process. They are not quite there yet, but I felt encouraged there is movement.
This week the Governor signed HF 570. This bill provides protection from liability for municipalities. It exempts them from tort liability for injuries to people who are engaging in recreational activity on public property, and where injuries arise from the normal and expected risk inherent in those activities. This bill is also known as the “sledding bill.”
Senator Gronstal removed his motion to reconsider the bill setting the school start date no earlier than August 23. This bill now goes to the Governor for his signature.
