ACCF endowment funds to pay out more than $65,000 to area recipients at 10th Anniversary and Grant Awards event April 21

The Allamakee County Community Foundation (ACCF) recently authorized $66,510 in agency and donor-advised endowment payouts for fiscal year 2015. This year's recipients of those grant payouts will be recognized at the ACCF 10th Anniversary and Grant Awards Celebration being planned for Tuesday, April 21 at the Waukon Banquet Center. The event will take place from 4-5:30 p.m., with the program commencing at 4:30 p.m. to recognize this year's grant recipients.
Community foundations are charitable organizations that administer funds to benefit their communities and improve the lives of people in their geographic region. Non-profit organizations and community members can create endowment funds through ACCF to benefit charitable causes. These funds are invested and pay out five percent annually to the designated non-profits, providing a reliable source of income to sustain organizations’ operations forever. Any earnings beyond the five percent are reinvested.
More than 20 Allamakee non-profits have established endowment funds through ACCF. Non-profit leaders look to the Community Foundation to hold their organizations’ endowments because the reliable source of funding helps them respond to emerging needs as well as plan for the future and sustain the good work they do.
Donors who give to endowments through a community foundation also benefit from the Endow Iowa 25% State Tax Credit in addition to federal charitable income tax deductions. “These funds help to preserve our area non-profits forever,” said Betty Steege, ACCF Coordinator. “Each fund is unique and the payouts fund everything from special projects to facility repairs and general operations."
“We wanted to provide a vehicle for families to give back to their hometowns,” says Rachelle Howe, Chair of the ACCF Board of Directors. “It is because of the generosity of donors and the commitment of area organizations that we are able to continue to provide the support needed for the future of Allamakee County.”
