Robert Carlton

Robert D. Carlton, age 68, of Waukon passed away Monday, April 27, 2015 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, MN. Memorial services were held Saturday, May 2 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Waukon, with Pastor Kim Gates officiating.
Robert was born in Sac City January 4, 1947 to parents Darwin and Loraine Carlton. He was active in sports, band and Boy Scouts. He went on to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. Robert graduated from Sac City High School and then received training to become an official Court Reporter. He worked in the Juvenile, Superior and District courts in Iowa, Nebraska and Washington State.
He married Karen Vandagriff September 1, 1973 in Rockwell City. They lived in Omaha, NE, Bellevue, WA and Guttenberg before settling in Waukon.
Robert's biggest joy in life was his grandchildren. He also enjoyed coin collecting, attending sporting events, playing cards, joking around with friends, and telling stories. Frequent remarks he might make included “Judas Priest,” “Just hold on, I’m getting to that,” and “Who’s telling this story anyway?”. Robert always enjoyed getting to know people and was an active member of St Paul's United Methodist Church.
Left to honor his memory are his wife, Karen; his sons, Andy (Heidi) Carlton of The Colony, TX and Matthew (Christina) Carlton of New Hampton; his grandchildren, Ben, Henry, Genevieve, Grace and William; six siblings, Sherry (Terry) Evans, Butch (Judy) Carlton, Scott Carlton, Margo (Larry) Leveranz, Doug (Judy) Carlton and Penny (Jeff) Schrader; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Bob was beloved by his family and will be greatly missed by all. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Waukon.
