Waukon High School Principal Dan Diercks hired as Superintendent of Oelwein School District

The Oelwein Community School District is reporting the hiring of Waukon High School Principal Dan Diercks as its new Superintendent, effective July 1 of this year. The Oelwein Community School District Board of Education announced the hiring of Diercks at its Wednesday, April 29 meeting.
The Allamakee Community School District (ACSD) Board of Education is scheduled to meet Wednesday, May 6 to consider the acceptance of Diercks' resignation from his position as Waukon High School Principal, among other agenda items. "Last week, Mr. Diercks was selected to be the new superintendent in the Oelwein Community School District," Allamakee Community School District Superintendent of Schools Dave Herold said. "We wish him well in his new position. There is no doubt that we will miss Mr. Diercks’ energy and enthusiasm for student learning. Mr. Diercks always kept the best interest of students and staff in mind when making decisions and his relational demeanor was evident every day."
The ACSD Board of Education will now be tasked with finding a replacement for Diercks, with no specific plan or impact being announced as of yet in consideration of the recent administrative restructuring that took place within the school district. "A replacement will be sought out to replace Mr. Diercks," Superintendent Herold said. "We are hopeful that we will be able to find someone that is student centered, data driven, and has a passion for dual enrolled classes (NICC credit) and Career and Technical Education (CTE)."
Diercks will be assuming the Superintendent position vacated by the resignation of Steve Westerberg, who has been hired as the Superintendent of Schools at Big Lake, MN. Westerberg had served Oelwein Community Schools as Superintendent since 2010.
