Calvin Eugene “Chuck” Wright was born August 20, 1923 in Ossian, the son of George Albert and Lettie Christine (Strand) Wright. He was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Decorah. When he was young, Chuck’s family rented several area farms, so they moved often and he attended several area rural elementary schools and Waukon and Spring Grove, MN High Schools.
Following school he farmed with his dad. He later worked at a number of jobs, including having a laundry route out of Waterloo, operating skating rinks in Ossian and Spring Grove, MN, and operating the Crystal Inn in Burr Oak.
June 19, 1955 he married Donna Jeanne Gilberg at Tamarack Lutheran Church in Arcadia, WI. Chuck and Jeanne bought the farm where they still live in rural Dorchester in 1955 and milked cows and raised hogs, chickens, sheep and grains.
Chuck was a member of Waterloo Ridge Lutheran Church and a former member of the Eitzen Creamery Board. He and Jeanne have both been active volunteers at Camp Winnebago. Although he enjoyed working with motorcycles and anything that had wheels, he devoted most of his time and interest to his work.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanne, of Dorchester; three children, Todd of Waukon, Jay of Dorchester and Mary Lynn (Steve) Herold of Monona; seven grandchildren, Candace, Chad, June, Adalena, Bradley and Thaddeus Herold, and Penny (Mathew) Fiedler; three great-grandchildren, Maverick, Kendric and Braxton; a sister-in-law, Bayonne Wright of Decorah; and a brother-in-law, Jerry Gunderson of Mabel, MN.
