Rodney Hagensick

Rodney Hagensick, age 55, of Decorah died Sunday, June 7, 2015 at his home in Decorah. Memorial Services were held at Walden Pond, Castalia Monday, June 15, with Rev. David Lenth of Ossian Lutheran Church officiating. Interment was at Walden Pond Cemetery, Castalia.
Rodney Lowell Hagensick was born December 21, 1959, the son of Jack and Sally (Schultz) Hagensick in Decorah. Rodney was baptized April 24, 1960 at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Castalia and confirmed April 27, 1975 at the Glenwood Lutheran Church, rural Decorah. Rodney attended Waukon Community Schools and helped on the family farm. He worked at Deco Products in Decorah and then also farmed with his dad.
Together, he and Paula Hitchcock had two sons, Shane and Troy. Rodney then was united in marriage to Sharla Fogt and had Elijah “E.J.” and Ethan. They later divorced.
Over the years, Rod worked various jobs and currently was employed at Ridgetop Erosion Control in Dorchester. Rod enjoyed riding his motorcycle, fishing and riding his bicycle. Above everything else, Rod loved spending time with his family, grandchildren and his friends.
Rod is survived by his four sons: Shane (friend Trisha Kountkofsky) Hagensick of Waukon, Troy (Kristie) Hagensick of Waukon, Elijah “E.J.” (friend Nicole Cameron) Hagensick of Tucson, AZ and Ethan (friend Sarah Webber) Hagensick of Tucson, AZ; eight grandchildren: Tristan, Xavier and Tyson Hagensick, Kaydyn and Jordyn Hagensick, Radley and Ellie Hagensick, and Osten Hagensick; his parents, Jack and Sally Hagensick of Waukon; four siblings: Rick (Charlene) Hagensick of Waukon, Barbara (Rick) Schares of Readlyn, Brenda (Dave) McConnell of Decorah and Rusty (Deb) Hagensick of Decorah; along with several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and cousins; two uncles, Jim (Sharon) Schultz of Oregon, IL and Alan (Judy) Schultz of Ozark, AL; and his close friend, Sheri Koester of Decorah. Rod was preceded in death by his grandparents, Roy and Genevieve Schultz, and Joe and Lois Hagensick.
Honorary casketbearers were all of Rod’s grandchildren and friends. Arrangements were handled by Schluter-Balik Funeral Home of Decorah.
