Evelyn Bublitz

Evelyn “Brownie” M. Bublitz, 84, of Waukon died Saturday, June 27, 2015 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 1 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Waukon. Burial was at Oakland Cemetery, Waukon.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, Good Samaritan Center in Waukon, or the Humane Society of Northeast Iowa in Decorah.
Evelyn “Brownie” Mae Bublitz was born July 15, 1930 in the Lansing area, the daughter of Daniel and Ada (Bolsinger) Spores. She attended Lansing schools, and August 23, 1947 she married Merlin Bublitz at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Waukon. Brownie worked for a while as a nurse’s aide in area nursing homes and then for over 25 years she worked at Northern Engraving as an inspector.
Brownie was a member of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary and belonged to St. Paul’s Methodist Church, where she also taught Sunday school. Brownie loved spending time with her family and her dog, Kool-Aide; her house was the central headquarters for everyone. Most Sundays, she’d have Sunday lunch and pies made for whoever stopped by. She also enjoyed baking, crocheting and bowling. She loved flowers, gardening and bird-watching, especially for the hummingbirds.
She is survived by her three children: Linda (friend Roger Stock) Manning, Roger Bublitz and Kevin (Sue) Bublitz; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Timmerman and Barb Miller; and a sister-in-law, Mary Lou Bublitz.
Brownie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Merlin, who died in 1994; three sisters: Mildred Weipert, Kate Meyers and Margaret “Sis” Gauthier; her brother, Herman Spores; and a son-in-law, Patrick Manning.
Honorary casketbearers were Breanna Bublitz, Libby and Abby Manning, Jessie Desselle, and Hope, Makayla, Sabrina, Whitney and Jordan Manning. Casketbearers were Scott, Glenn and Brian Manning, Brandon Bublitz, Zach Manning and Justin Sommer.
