Gordon Johnson

Gordon Lee “Gordy” Johnson, 77, of Lansing passed away peacefully at his home Wednesday, July 22, 2015. Funeral services were held Monday, July 27 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Lansing, with Rev. John Moser and Rev. Rick Halvorson as Celebrants. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery, Waukon.
Gordon was born June 19, 1938 in Makee Township, Allamakee County. He graduated from Waukon High School in 1956. Gordon was united in marriage with Madonna Walleser June 9, 1962 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in De Soto, WI and together they enjoyed 53 years of marriage.
Over the years, Gordon worked for Star Dairy and Lansing Garage. He started his career at Interstate/Alliant Energy Power Company in 1976 and retired in 2000. He was a member of the Lansing Volunteer Fire Department for many years. He was also a member of the Jaycees and was an Auxiliary Police Officer.
Gordon enjoyed fishing, playing cards, snowmobiling, helping his son, Lee, on his farm, mowing grass at the farm and extensive travel. He was able to tour all 50 states, plus dozens of foreign countries. Gordon and his wife, Donna, hosted three foreign exchange students from Norway, Sweden and Finland. Gordon was blessed to be able to watch all his grandchildren participate in their extra-curricular activities through their high school and college years.
In addition to his wife, Donna, Gordon is survived by his two sons, Jon (Erin) of New Albin and Lee (Cheryl) of Ferryville, WI; five grandsons: Mason, Marshal, Chad, Cole and Dylan; and one granddaughter, Mariah. Additional survivors include his brothers-in-law, Clem (Judy) Walleser, Jack (Jean) Walleser, Ed (Vivian) Walleser and Kevin (Anne) Walleser; his sisters-in-law, Betty (Ralph) Schedivy, Bernie (Richard) Halvorson, Alice (Joe) Koeller, Sue (Ron) Brudos, Daisy Bauman, Shirley Walleser, Helen Jean Walleser, Ginny (Orville) Hendrickson, Mary (Armand) Bringe and Margaret (John) McDonah; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Gordon was preceded in death by his mother, Mabel Johnson; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Velma and Stanley Walleser; and his brothers-in-law, Stanley “Buck” Walleser, Jr., Patrick Keenan and Ralph Bauman.
Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Lansing assisted the family with arrangements.
