A familiar face has recently returned to the beauty scene in Waukon, as Jane Saddler Punelli has come back to the local area with her nearly three decades of experience in the cosmetology industry - a vast majority of that experience taking place right here in northeast Iowa.
"I previously owned Best Impressions Salon in Waukon for 19 years," Punelli said. "I had to relocate to Des Moines for family reasons and am now able to return. I have missed having my own business and the people of this area."
Punelli is currently established within the Hair Body & Mind Salon & Spa location at 30 West Main Street in Waukon, where she rents a chair from salon owner Kim Sylvester but operates independently. As part of that overall salon and spa facility, she offers a full service of hair cutting and styling for men, women and children, as well as spray tanning, waxing and a variety of nail finishing services.
Punelli grew up in the Harpers Ferry area and graduated from Kee High School in Lansing. After graduating from Universal Cosmetology School in 1986, she worked locally with First Edition from 1986-1989 and Town and Country Salon from 1991-1994 before operating her own salon, Best Impressions, from 1994-2012 in Waukon. Getting married and moving to Des Moines in 2012 took her to Hidden Beauty Salon in Des Moines for the past three years before her recent return to Waukon.
Her marriage to Tony Punelli has resulted in a family of three children and one grandchild, but she says her family extends far beyond just blood lines. "With this profession, clients become like a family," Punelli said. "I enjoy watching everyone grow and making people look and feel good about themselves. I love this profession and I can't imagine doing anything else."
Punelli is open for business from 12-8 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays, and by advance appointment Saturdays. She can be reached at 563-568-1510 or 563-568-4500.
