Robert B. “Bud” Maust, Jr. passed away August 15, 2015 at Gundersen Lutheran Health System in La Crosse, WI. Services were held Saturday, September 5 at St. Peter’s Church in New Albin with Rev. William Reese officiating. Burial was held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lansing with military rites by the Lansing VFW Post 5981.
Robert was born in Sanborn to Robert B. Maust, Sr. and Freda (Graves) Maust July 12, 1926. He attended a country school on Gruber Ridge near Lansing. He enlisted in the U.S. Army from 1945-1946 and received a medical discharge from injuries he suffered while stationed in Okinawa during World War II. He married Helen Gillespie January 14, 1950 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. The Lord blessed them with 65 years of marriage.
He served on the church council, the New Albin City Council, belonged to the Lansing VFW Post 5981, American Legion Post 50, Disabled Veterans, and was active in the New Albin VFW Post 5603. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers for 65 years. He was a contributor to activities that helped benefit New Albin.
He is survived by his wife, Helen; his sons, Danny Maust (friend, Kris France) of Stoddard, WI, Scott (Mary Ann) Maust of Monmouth, IL and Kent Maust (friend, Kris Curry) of New Albin; his daughter, Cindy (Dennis) Smith of McGregor; his sisters, Donna (David) Kerkow of Columbia Heights, MN and Jean Steiber of Lansing; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter-in-law, Patti Maust; a grandson, Jason Maust; and a great-grandson, Justin Cahoon.
