Marie D. Perry, 86, of Stonehill Care Center and formerly of 1843 Adair Street and Applewood Village, all in Dubuque, passed away peacefully Friday, November 30, 2015 at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque. Funeral services were held Friday, December 4 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church with the Rev. Steven Rosanke officiating. Burial was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Key West, south of Dubuque.
Marie was born December 3, 1928 in Waukon, the daughter of James and Celia (Griffin) Collins. She graduated from Waukon High School in 1947. In February 1962, Marie married Robert V. Perry at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church. He preceded her in death February 5, 1995.
Marie spent her early years growing up on the farm north of Waukon. She later moved to Dubuque and worked as a nurse's aid at Xavier Hospital. Marie was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking up her old recipes. She also liked to go visit her sister, Stella, in the summer in Waukon so she could be back on the farm. In her retirement years, she enjoyed shopping and taking bus trips with her friends at Applewood. Marie spent the last few years at Stonehill Care Center, where she loved to play cards, bingo and go play slot machines - always saying that she had won.
Surviving are her three sons: Jim of Peosta, Paul (Michelle) of Pottsboro, TX and John (Tina) of Dubuque; her six grandchildren, Samantha, Austin, Alex, Jordan, Libby and Brant. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert; her sister, Stella Hammel; and four brothers: James, Elmer, John and Robert Collins.
A Marie D. Perry memorial fund has been established.
