Waukon basketball girls defeat New Hampton, fall in back-to-back weekend pair

The Waukon girls basketball team posted a single win in a busy, three-game schedule this past week, getting its Northeast Iowa Conference season off to a positive start with a 55-39 home victory over New Hampton Tuesday, December 1. The week ended with a pair of back-to-back losses in non-conference play, the Indians falling to Caledonia, MN at home by a 49-39 count Friday, December 4 and then to Class 3A eighth-rated Union of La Porte City by a 38-25 count Saturday, December 5 in a multi-game setting at Wartburg College in Waverly.
Holding a 2-3 record in the season’s early-going, the Indians will have most of this week free before traveling to Oelwein Friday, December 11. Waukon will then host Crestwood Tuesday, December 15 before playing another pair of back-to-back games to end the pre-holiday portion of its schedule, traveling to Spring Grove, MN Thursday, December 17 and then to Class 4A 12th-rated Waverly-Shell Rock Friday, December 18.
