Mary Lou Buege

Mary Lou Buege, 75, of Evansdale, formerly of Waukon, died Monday, December 14, 2015 at Cedar Valley Hospice House in Waterloo. Funeral services were held Thursday, December 17 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon, with Rev. Msgr. Cletus Hawes, Fr. Donald Hawes and Deacon Mike Ward officiating. Burial was at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Waukon.

Mary Lou Buege was born August 14, 1940 at Catherine Hall’s Home Hospital in Waukon. She was the daughter of Kermit and Dorothy (Duggan) Sunderman. She was baptized at St. Patrick Catholic Church and in 1958 Mary Lou graduated from St. Patrick School in Waukon.
In October 1958, she married Raymond Buege and soon moved to Waterloo. After eight years together, they divorced. Mary Lou worked in various factories in Waterloo and Cedar Falls for 32 years, including the Waterloo Register Company in Cedar Falls, Jerald Sulky Company in Waterloo (which made sulkies and horse racing equipment), and Waterloo Industries (which made tool boxes for Sears, big rollaways for Sears and stock car drivers, and hospital carts).
She belonged to St. Nicholas’s Church in Evansdale until they closed and was a current member of both St. Joseph’s in Raymond and Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Gilbertville. Mary Lou belonged faithfully to the Society of St. Jude and always had her dad’s rosary with her.
Mary Lou is survived by two cousins, Joseph Hopewell of Hawaii and Clifford Hopewell of New Jersey. She was preceded in death by her parents; her maternal grandparents, Emma and Dan Duggan; her paternal grandparents, Fred and Lydia Sunderman; three uncles, Ralph and Irving (Blanche) Sunderman and Raymond Duggan; and her aunt, Bernita Hopewell.
