Final flurry helps seal the win ... Waukon boys basketball senior Wyatt Wille drives to the basket for a pair of early points in the Indians’ 65-59 home victory over Decorah in overtime Tuesday, January 5. Wille scored the Indians’ final five points of the ballgame - a final 5-0 run in the last 40 seconds - to finish the contest with nine points while also grabbing two rebounds, swiping two steals and dishing out one assist. The busiest stretch of the season faced the Waukon boys basketball team when it returned to action on the court following the holiday season, the Tribe having four games on its schedule within that week’s timeframe. However, a Friday, January 8 contest at Charles City was postponed by winter weather to January 19, and just one of those three remaining games ended up in the Indian win column, that being a 65-59 overtime thriller over Decorah at home Tuesday, January 5. On each side of that triumph, the Indians were dealt non-conference road losses, 70-67 at Clayton Ridge Saturday, January 2 and 92-49 at Prairie du Chien, WI Saturday, January 9.
The Indians currently hold a 4-5 season record, including a 2-2 mark in Northeast Iowa Conference play. The Tribe was scheduled to play at North Fayette Valley Monday, January 11 before hosting New Hampton Friday, January 15 and playing at Waterloo East Saturday, January 16. The Indians will then make up that January 8 game at Charles City Tuesday, January 19 before playing Friday, January 22 at Oelwein.
