Split of six duals wrestled at Decorah results in consolation title for Waukon mat squad

The Waukon wrestling team edged closer to the end of its regular season with another late-week dual meet followed by a weekend tournament. In all, that schedule amounted to six dual meets wrestled in less than 48 hours, the Indians winning half of those duals. That competition began with a 45-27 Northeast Iowa Conference dual meet loss at Decorah Thursday, January 14 before the Tribe wrestled to a consolation championship finish at the Decorah Dual Tournament Saturday, January 16, falling to a pair of ninth-rated squads that included Class 1A Wapsie Valley, 44-30, and Class 3A Western Dubuque, 61-12, but also posting wins of 44-24 over a Decorah Red team in its initial pool and a sweep of Consolation Round duals, 48-12 over Turkey Valley and 45-15 over Postville.
Currently holding a 7-14 season record, 0-5 in Northeast Iowa Conference action, the Indians will wrestle both Oelwein and Waverly-Shell Rock at Oelwein Thursday, January 21 before competing in the Riceville Tournament Saturday, January 23. The mat Tribe will then prepare for the Northeast Iowa Conference Tournament to be wrestled at Oelwein Saturday, January 30 and then its Class 2A Sectional Tournament at Decorah Saturday, February 6.
