Mary Intlekofer

Mary L. Intlekofer, 90, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Waukon, died Thursday, January 21, 2016 at Manor Care in Cedar Rapids. Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 26 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon, with Rev. Msgr. Cletus Hawes and Fr. Donald Hawes officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Waukon.

Mary Lucille Intlekofer was born April 25, 1925 in Waukon, the daughter of Fred and Mabel (Doehler) Intlekofer. She graduated from St. Patrick High School in Waukon in 1942, and then in 1947 earned a B.A. degree in mathematics from St. Teresa’s College in Winona, MN. Mary lived most of her life in Waukon until 1981, when she and her mother moved to Cedar Rapids, where they lived with her sister and brother-in-law, Ruth Ann and Karl Kelleher. In September 2009, Mary moved to Higley Mansion Care Center, where she resided until moving into Manor Care.
Mary belonged to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, the Indian Creek Nature Center, and Defenders of Wildlife. She enjoyed attending the nature center activities and being outdoors. Her hobbies included cooking, reading, crossword puzzles, and collecting coins and stamps. Also, she was noted for the speed and accuracy with which she could mentally figure math equations.
Mary is survived by her sister, Ruth Ann Kelleher of Cedar Rapids; a sister-in-law, Lucille, of Seattle, WA; 25 nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers: James (Madalyn), Charles and Francis “Handy”; and a brother-in-law, Karl Kelleher.
