The Waukon girls basketball team came up just shy of posting a second consecutive undefeated week, instead splitting a pair of home Northeast Iowa Conference games. The Indians opened the week with a 52-48 triumph over Charles City Tuesday, January 19 before looking to be in the driver’s seat to do the same against Oelwein Friday, January 22 but, instead, having the visiting Huskies pull off a late comeback to leave the Indians with a 54-53 defeat.
The week’s split leaves the Indians at an even season record of 8-8, including a 4-4 mark in Northeast Iowa Conference play. The Indians were scheduled to play at Crestwood Tuesday, January 26 before hosting Class 4A 12th-rated Waverly-Shell Rock Friday, January 29. The basketball Tribe will then play at Prairie du Chien, WI Tuesday, February 2 before traveling to Charles City Friday, February 5.
