Connie Sanderson

Connie M. Sanderson, 68, passed away January 27, 2016 in Lansing. There will be no visitation or funeral services. Memorials in her name may be made to the organization of the mourners’ choice.
Connie was born September 30, 1947 in Madison, WI.  She graduated in 1969 from Luther College in Decorah and married Harlan Sanderson June 21 that same year.  She taught French and English (including literature, composition and creative writing classes) for 27 years at South Winneshiek High School in Calmar before retiring with her husband in the countryside by the Mississippi River near Lynxville, WI.
Connie was a gentle soul who loved nature - wildflowers, gardens, birds, butterflies and animals of all kinds. She was a poet whose work appeared in numerous literary magazines, and in 1996 she received the Jade Ring Award for Poetry from the Wisconsin Regional Writers’ Association.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Margaret Peterson of Eastman, WI; her uncle, Erland (Rorie) Peterson of Milwaukee, WI; her aunt, Dorothy Peterson of Madison, WI; her uncle, Curtis (Evelyn) Peterson of Madison, WI; her uncle, Arnold Peterson of Madison, WI; her sister-in-law, Virginia (Larry) Gunhus of Decorah; and her nephew, Bruce Gunhus of Fort Worth, TX.
Her survivors include her husband of more than 46 years, Harlan G. Sanderson of Eastman, WI; her sister, Nancy (William Ng) Peterson of Winona, MN; her aunt, Evelyn (Curtis) Peterson of Madison, WI; her sister-in-law, Shirley (Allan) Meister of Riverside, CA; Shirley’s children, Terry (Melinda) Meister of Colton, CA and Kathy (George) Williams of Oxnard, CA; her brother-in-law, Larry (Lois) Gunhus of Decorah; Larry's children, Valerie Gunhus of Waukon and Kristi Lepa of Cresco; and her grand-nieces and grand-nephews, Alex and Nikki Meister of Riverside, CA, Anna and Scott Putnam of Hemet, CA, Shawn Melin of Chino Hills, CA, Brian Melin of Riverside, CA and Beirgen Gunhus of Waukon.
