Cyril Knopf

Cyril Knopf, 97, of Lansing died Friday, February 12, 2016 at Thornton Manor, Lansing. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, February 19 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lansing. Interment will be held in Gethsemane Cemetery, Lansing following the mass.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, February 18 at Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home in Lansing and one hour before services at the church Friday. A Scripture Service will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with a Rosary service after.
Cyril Fredrick, the son of Louis and Anna (Wendler) Knopf, was born July 16, 1918 on a farm at Faegre Prairie Road, near Churchtown. Cyril attended school at the Faegre Prairie Country School and Lansing School.  He farmed near Dry Ridge, rural Lansing his entire life and retired at the age of 93.
Cyril was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He served as an usher and had been active in the Knights of Columbus.  He was also a member of the Farm Bureau.
Cyril enjoyed playing a German game called mill, checkers, euchre, and putting together puzzles. He loved to travel and had visited The Holy Land, Egypt, Vatican City, Rome, Yellowstone, and many other places. He also enjoyed fishing and trapping.
Cyril is survived by his sister, Rosemary Knopf, who resides in the Strawberry Point Lutheran Home, and many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-great-nieces and nephews.
Cyril was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters, Clara Krieger, Loretta McDonough, Rita Gusloff, Leona Knopf and Evelyn McKee; and three brothers, Leo Knopf, Lawrence Knopf and Edward Knopf.
