Waukon basketball girls have season ended by Oelwein in first round

Waukon girls basketball senior Nicole Behrend launches a three-point missile in the Indians’ Class 3A first-round regional tournament loss at home to Oelwein Saturday, February 13 by a final score of 49-37. Behrend splashed in a pair of those long-range bombs to lead the Indian scoring with 10 points in her final game in a Waukon basketball uniform, in addition to grabbing three rebounds, swiping a pair of steals and dishing out one assist in the contest. The 2015-2016 Waukon girls basketball season came to a close in less than desirable fashion this past week, as the basketball Lady Indians suffered back-to-back losses to end both their regular season and overall season. The Waukon girls ended their regular season with a 44-32 loss at home to Decorah Tuesday, February 9 and then suffered that same unfortunate fate four days later when the Oelwein Huskies ended the Tribe’s season with a 49-37 loss at home in the opening round of Class 3A regional tournament play Saturday, February 13.
The first-round loss brings the Indians’ 2015-2016 campaign to a close with a record of 9-12, including a 5-7 mark in Northeast Iowa Conference play that placed them in a tie for fourth place with Oelwein, the very team that ended the Tribe’s season. With the win, Oelwein advanced on to a Wednesday, February, 17 regional semifinals match-up at second-rated Center Point-Urbana, who defeated North Fayette Valley by a 64-34 final result in Saturday’s first-round action.
