Waukon wrestling senior trio competes one final time in Iowa-Minnesota Border Battle

Joe Frieden, Carter Fuhrman and Miles Howe each pick up a win to help Team Iowa score 31-16 victory

Three senior members of the Waukon wrestling team took to the mat one final time this season, joining other top mat seniors from northeast Iowa in taking on their all-star wrestling counterparts from southeast Minnesota in the 15th annual Iowa-Minnesota All-Star Border Battle hosted by the Iowa Wrestling Hall of Fame at Crestwood High School in Cresco Friday, March 4. Indian mat seniors Miles Howe, at 113 pounds, Carter Fuhrman, at 160 pounds, and Joe Frieden, at 182 pounds, made up about one-fourth of the Team Iowa line-up, each picking up a win to help the Iowa All-Stars score a 31-16 team victory to push Team Iowa ahead of Team Minnesota in the overall series by an 8-7 count.
Fuhrman actually ended up wrestling twice in the all-star dual, splitting those two matches. The Indian 160-pounder first lost a 13-4 major decision to Jacob Winjum of Caledonia, MN but bounced back with a 10-6 victory by decision in his second match against Cody Starin of Lakeville, MN.
Howe’s bout at 113 pounds saw him pull out a 6-5 decision over Stewartville, MN senior Joey Thompson. Frieden also pulled out a one-point victory at 182 pounds, defeating Stewartville, MN senior Troy Bailey, 3-2.
