John Shaw

John M. Shaw, 94, of Waterloo died Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at Northgate Care Center in Waukon. Funeral Services were held Tuesday, April 19 at Walnut Ridge Baptist Church in Waterloo. Burial was at the Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Cedar Falls with Military Rites by the Cedar Falls Amvets Post #49 and Iowa Army National Guard Honors.

John was born December 12, 1921 in Hopeville, the son of Boyd Milton and Sarah Grace Jackson Shaw. He graduated from Iowa State Teachers College High School in Cedar Falls in 1939.

John married Donna Kathleen Carroll June 6, 1941 in Waterloo. She preceded him in death November 20, 1985. He then married Elizabeth Ilene Mulder October 11, 1986 in Waterloo. She preceded him in death September 17, 2003.

John served in the Pacific Theater for Operations with the United States Army during World War II. He drove a milk route for Walnut Dairy Farms from 1939-1942, farmed in Butler and Black Hawk counties from 1948-1963, and was a machinist for Schoitz Engineering Co. from 1963-1990.

He has been a member of Walnut Ridge Baptist Church since 1957. He was Sunday School Superintendent for several years, taught the Young Married Couples Sunday School Class, and was Chairman of the Board of Deacons.

He was saved at Hagerman Baptist Chapel during Evangelistic meetings with Merv Rosell in 1940 when Maynard Rogers was pastor. He loved to fish every summer for over 20 years in Canada. He enjoyed hunting deer in Wyoming and Missouri and continued to winter in Mesa, AZ for many years.

John is survived by a son, Brent (Cathy) Shaw of Kansas City, MO; a daughter, Faith (Roger) Ericson of Lansing; a daughter-in-law, Jane Shaw of Riverside, CA; a son-in-law, John Segebarth of Sun Prairie, WI; 14 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Delilah Shaw of Fountain Hills, AZ.

He was preceded in death by his wives; a daughter, Ramona Segebarth; a son, Jon Shaw; a granddaughter, Amanda; a great-granddaughter, Cassandra; a great-grandson, Avery; three brothers, Russell, Wayne and Merrill Shaw; and a special friend, Peg Haycraft.
