The Kee girls track team had its overall 2016 team season brought to a close this past week, but for a pair of Lady Hawks that season continued on to this week’s season grand finale, the Class 1A State Track Meet in Des Moines. Freshman Katie Brennan and sophomore Kendra Cooper each earned a spot among the Class 1A track and field elite in their respective specialties, Brennan with a championship effort in the 3000 meter run and Cooper with a third-place discus effort at the Hawks’ Class 1A State Qualifying Meet at Edgewood-Colesburg Thursday, May 12.

Those State Meet qualifying efforts led the Hawks to an eighth-place team finish at Thursday’s State Qualifying event. The Lady Hawks also tried to make up an April 5 postponement at Postville Monday, May 9, but had rain force an early end to that invitational with the Hawks ending up in third place in that limited final six-team score.
Both Brennan and Cooper will now compete later this week in the Class 1A State Track Meet held at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.
