Kee softball team’s 4-2 record on the week includes losses to 4A top-10 pair

by Val Meyer

The Kee softball team was dealt its first losses of the season this past week, but it took a pair of top 10-rated teams from Class 4A to accomplish that feat. The Lady Hawks ended up playing in just two events this week - with a Tuesday, May 31 non-conference doubleheader at New Hampton having to be postponed until June 21 due to stormy weather, but still ended up playing six games for the week. The Kee diamond dwellers first swept an Upper Iowa Conference doubleheader at Clayton Ridge by scores of 12-0 in three innings and 10-0 in a full seven innings Thursday, June 2 before winning two of four games at the two-day North Fayette Valley Tournament this past weekend that included their first two losses of the season, 6-0 to Class 4A top-rated Adel-DeSoto-Minburn and 4-2 to Class 4A eighth-rated Waverly-Shell Rock in eight innings Friday, June 3. Kee then bounced back at the tournament Saturday, June 4 to post back-to-back wins over Class 1A 12th-rated Don Bosco, 7-2, and Springville, 9-1, to get back on the winning track and earn the event split.

Remaining undefeated and not yet scored upon in four Upper Iowa Conference (UIC) games so far this season, and holding an 8-2 overall record in their summer campaign’s early-going, the Lady Hawks were next scheduled to be at home for all three of their weekday dates this week, beginning with an Upper Iowa Conference (UIC) doubleheader against Starmont Monday, June 6 and a non-conference affair with Crestwood Tuesday, June 7 before hosting another UIC twinbill with West Central Thursday, June 9. The Kee girls will then host another pair of UIC doubleheaders with MFL/MarMac, Monday, June 13, and Edgewood-Colesburg, Wednesday, June 15, before playing in another two-day tournament at West Delaware Friday and Saturday, June 17 and 18.
