Missouri University of Science and Technology graduate student Kerry A. Magner was recently awarded the 2015 Ron Eckelkamp Memorial Fellowship. Magner, the son of Rose Magner and James Magner, both of Waukon, is pursuing a doctoral degree in Civil Engineering with a Geotechnical Emphasis at the Missouri University of Science and Technology in Rolla, MO. Pictured, left to right, in recognition of the Fellowship awards are Dr. Wen Deng, Chao Zeng, Junnan Cao, Kerry Magner and Dr. Bate Bate.

The Fellowship award is in recognition of Magner's exemplary performance, scholarly activities and leadership in teaching and service to the Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering Department at Missouri University of Science and Technology. He is described in the Fellowship documentation as being instrumental in the development of a thriving and vibrant geotechnical engineering program at the school. Magner is currently an instructor for the undergraduate geotechnical engineering and soil mechanics courses at Missouri University of Science and Technology and his PhD research is focused on mechanisms of seepage related to earth dam and levee failures.

A 1993 graduate of Waukon High School, Magner received his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Iowa State University in 2003. He also holds a Master of Science degree in Geological Engineering and a second Master of Science degree in Explosives Engineering, both from Missouri University of Science and Technology. Magner intends on defending his PhD research in the fall of 2016.

The Memorial fellowship, established by Geotechnology, Inc. of St. Louis, MO in 2003, is designed to encourage and reward persons of accomplishment, intelligence, integrity and leadership ability. The trust benefactor, Ron Eckelkamp, was known at Missouri University of Science and Technology for setting very high professional standards in the profession of geotechnical engineering.
