Kee baseball to begin postseason tournament play July 12 at home

The Kee baseball team will get Class 1A postseason tournament play underway Tuesday, July 12 at home, playing the second game of a scheduled tournament doubleheader that evening. The Hawks will take on Wapsie Valley at 7 p.m. that Tuesday, following the 5 p.m. contest between Starmont and Edgewood-Colesburg. The two winning teams from those first-round contests will advance on to a Thursday, July 14 district semifinals match-up to be played at 5 p.m. at Jesup as the first game of another District 7 doubleheader.

That semifinals victor will then move on to play for Class 1A District 7 championship honors Saturday, July 16 at 7 p.m. and again at Jesup. That district championship opponent will emerge from first-round match-ups featuring Turkey Valley vs. East Buchanan and eighth-rated Jesup vs. Postville. The District 7 champion will then earn advancement on to Class 1A Substate 4 play, that substate championship game being played Tuesday, July 19 at Manchester, beginning at 7 p.m.

The Substate 4 championship opponent will emerge from Class 1A District 8, which features first-round match-ups of fifth-rated Alburnett vs. Prince of Peace, Bellevue Marquette vs. Easton Valley, Bellevue vs. Central City and Calamus-Wheatland vs. Midland, Wyoming. The Substate 4 champion will then qualify to play in the Class 1A State Tournament scheduled to be played July 22-30 at Principal Park in Des Moines.
