Results report indicates Allamakee Community School District students perform well on ACT testing

The Allamakee Community School District (ACSD) recently received its "College Readiness Letter" from the ACT testing organization for those students who graduated this past May. The report indicates that the ACSD students who graduated in 2016 achieved the highest composite score of any graduating class in over 15 years.

Other notable accomplishments shared from the ACT report include:
• 57 of the ACSD 2016 graduates took the exam this past year.
• ACSD students’ scores were above the state average in English, math, social science and science: (District Score/State Average = English 22.5/21.4; Mathematics 22.3/21.4; Reading 23.3/22.7; and Science 22.7/22.3).
• ACSD students did score much higher than the state average in readiness for college. ACT has established that college readiness benchmarks include the following subject areas and ACT scores that are benchmarks for college readiness: English (18); Algebra (22); Reading (22) and Biology (23). Allamakee Community School District students’ scores showed that 81% of the students scored an 18 or higher in English; 63% scored a 22 or higher in Algebra; 68% scored a 22 or higher in Social Science; and 56% of the students scored a 23 or higher in Biology.  The report indicates that 40% of ACSD students taking the exam met all four of the above benchmarks, which is an average eight percent higher than the state average.
• The composite average for ACSD students was 22.9; the state of Iowa composite average was 22.1.
David Herold, ACSD Superintendent of Schools, commented, “We are extremely proud of the students that took the ACT test during their tenure at ACSD. The ACT exam is one national measure that compares our students with others throughout the nation taking the same exam. This is a true indicator of how we compare with our state and the nation. Iowa is traditionally one of the top achieving states in the nation for ACT scores, so the fact that our graduation class of 2016 ranked higher than the state average and is higher than any other Waukon High School class in recent memory is a true indicator of this achievement. These scores also show that students who graduate from the Allamakee CSD are prepared and ready to take on the rigors of college and beyond. These scores also show the commitment of the Board of Education, staff, students and parents in preparing these kids for college."
