Turnovers continue to fuel Waukon football fire as gridiron Tribe spoils Waterloo Columbus Homecoming with 43-7 victory

The Waukon football team remained undefeated in its Class 2A District 4 quest so far this season, sinking the Sailors of Waterloo Columbus on their Homecoming night with a 43-7 road ambush Friday, September 23. Although holding just a single win this season, Waukon football coach Chad Beermann was not about to let his charges overlook the host Sailors, who had rallied for a furious comeback to give the football Tribe a 30-27 home scare last season. A stifling Indian defense that limited Columbus to just 123 total yards of offense, and an opportunistic Tribe offense that took advantage of seven Sailor turnovers in the ballgame left little doubt there would be no repeat scare this season.

“We will keep working on looking at the big picture of the overall season, while focusing on the immediate goal of winning this game,” Coach Beermann said regarding his team’s next challenge. “Monticello has lost its last three games to North Fayette Valley, Union and Cascade. They are a good team that played Union tight until the last couple minutes of the second quarter.”
