The Kee football team played host to the sleeping giant that had been awakened last week with its first loss ever during the regular season of Eight-Player football, as top 10-rated Don Bosco traveled to Lansing Friday, September 30 after falling to Central Elkader last Friday. The Hawks, however, showed no signs of intimidation in striking the first blow and standing toe-to-toe with the high-powered Dons through much of the first half, trailing by just a 25-20 count midway through the second quarter before Don Bosco rattled off 49 unanswered points to deal the host Hawks a 74-20 defeat.

“We played really good football for most of the first half, minus a couple big turnovers,” Kee football coach Chad Winters said. “I thought we executed our game plan really well early, we just can’t overcome setting another team up at the 15 twice and just outside the 30 another time with the turnovers. They wore us down as the game went on and when you’re a step late with those type of athletes on the field it becomes an explosive play for them.”

Falling to 2-4 on the season, including a 2-2 mark in Eight-Player District 3, the Hawks are scheduled to host a second consecutive top 10-rated district foe in Central Elkader this Friday, October 7. The Warriors hold a 4-2 record on the season and remain atop the Eight-Player District 3 standings with an undefeated 3-0 mark, but come off a 42-20 home defeat to top 10-rated and undefeated Turkey Valley in non-district play this past Friday, September 30. Central’s only other loss on the season was a 42-34 non-district loss to Midland, Wyoming in Week 2 of this season.
