James Walsh

James M. Walsh, 83, of Waukon died Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services were held Monday, October 10 at First Baptist Church in Waukon, with Pastor Duane Smith officiating. Burial was at Oakland Cemetery, Waukon.

James Michael Walsh was born January 24, 1933 in rural Harpers Ferry, the son of Stephen and Marjorie (Molitor) Walsh. He attended Figgie country school in Linton Township, rural Monona. From 1952-1955 he served in the National Guard Company D 133rd Infantry as a sergeant grade E-5.

July 15, 1950, he married Beverly Joan Schlitter at St. John's Lutheran parsonage in Monona. Jim did carpentry work for Bob Stilwell, farmed from 1957-1968 in the Ion area and worked at Waukon Implement before he went to work for Allamakee County as the maintenance superintendent until he retired in 1998.

Jim was a member of the American Legion. When Jim was younger he sang and played the guitar. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially with his son and grandsons. Jim loved spending time with his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Beverly, of Waukon; his children, Cheryl (Jerry) Bollman of Waukon and Kim (Phyllis) Walsh of Lansing; four grandchildren, Kari (Matthew) Nelson, Bryan Bollman, Cory Walsh and Casey (Kieran Kruger) Walsh; six great-grandchildren, Chelsea (Michael Clark) Ahlstrom; Whalen Ahlstrom, Ellyce, Natali and Kylynn Walsh, and Ozzie Nelson; one great-great-grandchild, Liam Clark; two sisters, Sharon Kouba of Hiawatha and Jean (Joe) Kroack of Waukon; a sister-in-law, Mary Lou Walsh of Waukon; and a nephew, James Kroack.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Irving Walsh; his step-father, George Topel; a brother-in-law, Don Kouba; and a nephew, Stephen Walsh.

Honorary casketbearer was James Kroack. Casketbearers were Cory and Casey Walsh, Bryan Bollman, Matthew Nelson, Mike Clark, Whalen Ahlstrom and Jeff Molitor.
