Burial with military honors will be at the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, October 11 at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.

Gordon Jacob Marti was born January 23, 1932 in Waukon to Philip and Inga (Sorum) Marti. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church in Waukon and attended Makee and Jefferson country schools. From 1955-57, Gordon served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany.

All his life, Gordon was a farmer on his family’s dairy farm in Jefferson Township. Conservation was very important to him and he took great care of his farm. Gordon took great pride in Penney Springs, the natural springs located on the family farm, and the pond he built below it. He enjoyed taking friends and family to the springs as well as seeing pictures and hearing about others' adventures of going there when he was no longer able to.

Gordon was very devoted in his faith and was a member and trustee of Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church. He also belonged to the American Legion and was active in the military cemetery detail. Gordon liked keeping up with politics, taking vacations to Branson, MO and Bemidji, MN, and riding his four-wheeler and Gator. He loved spending time with his neighboring farmers and enjoyed taking friends and family out to eat on special occasions.

Gordon valued the time everyone took to visit him as well as updating him about crops in the area, which quickly would turn into a great conversation. He enjoyed his last years at the Good Samaritan Center and especially liked the music and outings.

He is survived by many nieces and nephews; and two sisters-in-law, Penny and Sylvia Marti, both of Waukon. Gordon was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Alice Marti; and nine brothers: Herman, Alton, Victor, Marvin, Lester, Wilbur, Kenneth, Grant and an infant brother.

Honorary casketbearers are Betty Decker, Darlene and David Leas, Penny, Robert and Sylvia Marti, Raymond Riek and Eileen Woods-Fahey. Casketbearers are Ryan Benzing, Brad Decker, Nick Eckhardt, Dayton Fish, Nick Jones and Jim Rush.
