LaVerne Sorum

LaVerne Sorum, 90, of Waukon died Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 18 at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, with Pastor Ronald Pederson officiating. Burial was at East Paint Creek Synod Cemetery, rural Waterville.

Moris LaVerne Sorum was born April 22, 1926 in Waukon, the son of Moris A. and Lulla G. (Gilbertson) Sorum. He was baptized May 23, 1926 and later confirmed November 16, 1941. LaVerne attended Bakkum School Center #4 through the eighth grade. September 11, 1964, he married Linda Lou Beardmore at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.

His whole life, LaVerne farmed on his home farm by the twin churches east of Waukon. He raised livestock, dairy cows, corn and hay, and loved raising his farm cats. LaVerne did some fox hunting, enjoyed going to church, and liked visiting with neighbors, family and friends. He was a member of East Paint Creek Synod Lutheran Church in rural Waterville, where he participated in the Men’s Club, and was currently a member of King of Grace Lutheran Church in Waukon.

LaVerne is survived by his wife, Linda, of Waukon; his brother, Burnell (Anita) Sorum of Waukon; his sister-in-law, LaVonne K. Beardmore of New York City; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Honorary casketbearers were Jim Adams, Dr. Mark Brodahl, Frank Goltz, Kermit Klees, Kevin Leiran and Dr. Craig Phipps. Casketbearers were Aaron, David and Eric Sorum, Tom Leiran, Ron Winters and Darrell Troendle.
