Hazel Schlitter

Hazel I. Schlitter, 95, of Waukon died Sunday, October 23, 2016 at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 28 at 11 a.m. at St. Pius Cherry Mound Catholic Church in rural Harpers Ferry, with Fr. John Moser officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, October 27 at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.

Hazel Irene Schlitter was born June 26, 1921 in rural Waterville, the daughter of Clyde and Eva (Molitor) Young. She graduated from Waterville High School in 1939. January 28, 1942, she married Howard William Schlitter in Kahoka, MO. Hazel and Howard farmed near Monona and on Irish Ridge until settling on Hazel's family's home farm near Waterville in 1954.

She was a former member of St. Pius at Cherry Mound Catholic Church and Waterville Lutheran Church, where she was active in the ladies circles. Hazel enjoyed working in her garden, cooking, playing bingo, and playing cards, especially euchre and 500. She loved spending time with her family.

Survivors include her children: William (XIKO-YU) Schlitter of Colorado Springs, CO, Bonnie Natz of Janesville, WI, and Bob (Ginny) Schlitter and Barb (Chuck) Weipert, both of Waterville; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Ruth Schlitter of Oelwein. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Howard, who died in 2003; a brother, Bob Young; and a son-in-law, Bob Natz.

Honorary casketbearers are Hazel's grandchildren and Bob Heffern. Casketbearers are Mike Monserud, Shawn Weipert, Kevin Schlitter, Dustin Rounds, Jack Heffern and Rob Grangaard.
