Sylvia Macauley

Sylvia I. Macauley, 81, of Waukon died Sunday, October 23, 2016 at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services were held Saturday, October 29 at First Presbyterian Church in Waukon, with Pastor Grant VanderVelden officiating. Martin Funeral Home of Waukon assisted the family with arrangements.

Sylvia Irene Macauley was born August 6, 1935 in Honeoye Falls, NY, the daughter of Gordon and Florence (Stanley) Macaulay. She attended Honeoye Falls Central School. Sylvia met Marlend Carl Meyer while he was in New York serving in the military. She came to Waukon with him and lived with his parents until the two were married December 11, 1954. The couple was later divorced.

Sylvia lived most of the rest of her life in the Waukon, Lansing and New Albin areas. Her work career included being head cook for the Eastern Allamakee Community School District in New Albin, working as a registered CNA/CMA in both Iowa and New York, and operating a registered home child care business in Waukon.

Sylvia enjoyed sewing and embroidery, as well as cooking and baking. She had a variety of pets throughout her life but dogs Polly and Tessie were special. Spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren was her favorite pastime.

Survivors include her children: Robert (Gail) Meyer of New Albin, Ronald (Linda) Meyer of Decorah, and Brenda (Tim) Timmerman and Jody Meyer, both of Waukon; 16 grandchildren: Jesie (Andy) Melde, Justin, Jarrett and Michelle Meyer, Crystal (Blaine) Kurth, Shannon Meyer, Kari (Dan) Dembowski, Jared Meyer, Tiffany (Alex) Cote’, Joshua (Danny), Keisha, Christian (Ali), Amanda, David (Carolyn) and Maleki Timmerman, and Kiefer Meyer; 27 great-grandchildren; a brother, Paul Macauley of Rush, NY; and a sister, Vera Ann (Richard) Hanson of Batavia, NY. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, infant Richard and Kenneth; two grandsons, Shane Timmerman and Jeremy Meyer; and a brother, Gordon Mccaulay, Jr.
