Dona Marie Danaher, age 86, passed away peacefully October 22, 2016 in Ankeny. Funeral services were held at Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart Catholic Church, 510 East First Street in Ankeny Friday, October 28. There was also a visitation at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon Saturday, October 29 with burial following in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Waukon.
Dona was born November 23, 1929 in Waukon to Francis and Mary (Fahey) Zoll. Dona grew up in Waukon and graduated from St. Patrick High School in 1947. She was employed by the Ankeny State Bank, The Federal Reserve Bank, and for many years in Continuing Education at Des Moines Area Community College, Ankeny.
Dona married Thomas Danaher November 23, 1950 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon on her 21st birthday. They were married for 33 years until the time of Tom’s death. Dona was a member of Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart Catholic Church, DMACC Pioneers and Ankeny Woman’s Club. Golfing, traveling, reading and gardening were activities that Dona enjoyed.
Dona was preceded in death by her husband, Tom; her parents, Francis and Mary Zoll; her brother, Donald and his wife, Betty; her grandsons, Matthew (Matt) Pickart and John Pickart; and a nephew, Christopher Zoll.
Dona’s children are James (Barb) of Perry, Kathy (Dean) of Strawberry Point and Kevin (Charles Murrow) of Des Moines. Dona’s grandchildren are Ann (Pickart) Klein of Ankeny, Mark (fiancé, Jessica) of Denver, CO, Katie (Pickart) Alshouse of Arlington, Tony Pickart of Denver, CO, Mary Pickart of Los Angeles, CA, Kelly (Danaher) Olson of Johnston and Trisha (Danaher) Olson of Ankeny. Her great-grandchildren, Matthew and Lauren Klein, Clare and Reese Alshouse, Parker Olson, and Roman and Kellan Olson, also survive her, along with her nieces, nephews and wonderful Waukon cousins.
