Kee girls basketball team suffers rare back-to-back losses in three-game week

Kee girls basketball senior Courtney Cooper takes aim for a shot in the Hawks’ 47-35 home loss to Class 2A Clayton Ridge Friday, January 6. Cooper popped a pair of three-pointers on her way to a team-high 12 points, a lead she shared with her junior sister, Kendra. The two also pulled down five rebounds each, with Courtney also swiping a team-high two steals and dishing out one assist. Photo courtesy of the Kee High School Yearbook. The Kee girls basketball team was scheduled to return to the hardcourt following the holiday break with its busiest week of the season, slated to play four games in a matter of six nights. However, a Tuesday, January 3 game at Seneca, WI was called off due to icy weather conditions and has not been rescheduled as of yet.

The remainder of the Lady Hawks’ busy week resulted in a recent rarity for the hardcourt Hawks, as they returned from the holiday break with a 50-35 home win over South Winneshiek Monday, January 2 in a game rescheduled from December 16 but then ended their three-game week with back-to-back losses for the first time in three seasons. Those losses, however, came to bigger schools boasting some significant weaponry, as the Hawks fell to Class 2A Clayton Ridge, which featured 6’2” senior Savannah Domeyer, by a score of 47-35 Friday, January 6 and then surrendered a 61-53 home loss to Class 3A sixth-rated and undefeated Crestwood in a rare Saturday afternoon matinee January 7.

Now holding a 6-3 overall season record, including a 4-2 start in Upper Iowa Conference (UIC) play, the Kee basketballers were scheduled to play at Edgewood-Colesburg Tuesday, January 10 before returning home to host MFL/MarMac Friday, January 13. The Lady Hawks will then hit the road for the following week, playing at North Fayette Valley Tuesday, January 17 and then at Central Elkader Friday, January 20.
