Waukon girls basketball team opens new year with undefeated week on the road

The Waukon girls basketball team hit the hardcourt after the holiday break with a pair of back-to-back road games, putting both in the win column to double its win total for the season. The Indians used a fourth quarter surge to pull out a 67-58 victory at MFL/MarMac Thursday, January 5 before traveling to Charles City Friday, January 6 to battle a yet winless Comet squad to a 39-27 victory with another strong second half effort.

The basketball Indians also had a Tuesday, January 3 home game scheduled with Decorah postponed due to icy conditions. That game is now scheduled to be made up Monday, January 16.

Holding a 4-6 season record, 2-3 in Northeast Iowa Conference play, the basketball Tribe was scheduled to open this week with back-to-back non-conference battles, including at North Fayette Valley Monday, January 9 and at home against Prairie du Chien, WI Tuesday, January 10 before hosting New Hampton Friday, January 13. The Indians will then make up that home game with Decorah Monday, January 16 before playing back-to-back games to cap off next week, Thursday, January 19 at home against South Winneshiek and Friday, January 20 at Oelwein.
