Alice Quint

Alice Irene Quint, 90, of Marshalltown, formerly of Harpers Ferry and Aurora, died peacefully Sunday, January 15, 2017 at the Iowa Veterans Home, Marshalltown. Funeral services were held Saturday, January 21 in St. Patrick’s Catholic Church at Winthrop, with Father David Beckman officiating. Interment was in Paint Rock Cemetery near Harpers Ferry.

Alice Irene Quint was born April 27, 1926 in rural Cedar Falls, the daughter of Clarence and Esther Stimson Popp. She attended school in Masonville and graduated from Lamont High School.

Alice was united in marriage to Nick Quint April 19, 1945 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Winthrop. To this union were born four children: Nick, Judy, Steve and Dan.

Alice taught in “country school” for a few years, but spent most of her working career as custodian at the Aurora School. She had a great love of that school and took great pride in keeping it shining. She formed great bonds with staff and students. Later she worked at the Aurora Elevator and did woodworking with Country Ala Mode. After retiring to Harpers Ferry, she worked for several years as city clerk and volunteered on the historical committee in that area.

Alice cherished her flowers, from petunias on the curb in Aurora to geraniums overlooking the river, and loved her friends, time on the river and, most of all, her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her son, Nick (Catherine) Quint of Madison, WI; her daughter, Judy (Dean) Hauschildt of Springfield, MO; her son, Dan (Michelle) Quint of LaCrosse, WI; her grandchildren: Ryan (Tanya) Quint of Madison, WI, Nicole (Robb) Maly-Verhelst of Madison, WI, Katie (Cole) Naughton of Omaha, NE, Mitchell (Shannon) Hauschildt of Springfield, MO, Jenny (Chad) Phillips of Wilmington, NC, Tim (Cody) Quint of Wilmington, NC, Sarah Quint of Madison, WI, Mike (Kristie) Quint of Wilmington, NC, Sheena (Shaun) Behnke of Madison, WI and Daniel Quint of Panama City, FL; three step-grandchildren: Nels, Lars and Kristin Forde, all of Madison, WI; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Nick; her son, Steven; her sisters, Mary Main and Emma Bacon; as well as several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in her honor. The Fawcett Funeral Home and Cremation Services assisted the family with arrangements. Visit online at www.fawcettsfuneralhome.com under obituaries.
