Arden Hanson

Arden I. Hanson, 88, of Waukon died Saturday, January 28, 2017 at Clarksville Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center in Clarksville. Memorial services will be held Thursday, February 2 at 11 a.m. at Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church in rural Waukon with Pastor Ken Kimball officiating. Burial with military honors will take place in the church cemetery.

Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services Thursday, February 2 at the church. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon is assisting the family with arrangements.

Arden Irvin Hanson was born May 21, 1928 in rural Waukon, the son of Almer and Ida (Larson) Hanson. He was baptized and confirmed at Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church and attended country schools and Waukon High School. Arden served in the United States Army from 1951-1953 during the Korean War.

June 28, 1955, he married Joyce Snitker at Salem United Church of Christ in rural Waukon. They moved to Waterloo, where Arden worked for Rath Packing Company for several years. In 1960, they moved back to the Waukon area to farm the Smeby family farms. Arden milked dairy cows and raised hogs and crops. Arden and Joyce moved into Waukon in 1983, where he drove the veterans van to the VA Medical Center in Iowa City and worked as a custodian for Robey Memorial Library in Waukon.

Arden was a member of Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church, where he served on various committees and the cemetery board. He was also a member of the American Legion and VFW. He enjoyed fishing, snowmobiling, hunting, cracking nuts, visiting with people and sightseeing. Arden was also an avid Packer fan. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and following their activities.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce, of Waukon; his children: Karen (Bill) Regan of Lansing, Beverly (Brad) Krambeer of Waukon, Steven (Pat) Hanson of Johnston, Dave (Barb) Hanson of Waukon, and Deb (Bart) Lodge and Lisa (Jeff) Kelm, both of Clarksville; 10 grandchildren: Kayla (Trevor) Vance, Bo (Krista) Lodge, Brooke Lodge, Carmen, Carissa and Carter Kelm, Kristy (Adam) Anderson, Michael (Amanda) Krambeer, Carly Krambeer and Patrick Hanson; five great-grandchildren: Kinnick and Chase Vance, Madison and Tucker Anderson, and Aubrey Hanson; a brother, Larry Hanson of Grand Island, NE; a sister-in-law, Helen Hanson of Monona; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Tara Lodge; his sister and her husband, Cynthia (Bob) Winkie; a brother, Vernon Hanson; a sister-in-law, Margaret Hanson; and two nephews, Mark and Eugene Hanson.
